Stroud, 2015, 247-256 (SEG 65.106), in a new study of this decree, reads ἀφικόμενος Ἐ̣λ̣ευ̣[σῖν|άδε (5, no change in sense), and argues for a date between the end of the Chremonidean War (261 BC) and the death of Antigonos Gonatas (239 BC). This decree shows that Antigonos visited Eleusis (probably arriving directly by sea - Eleusis had its own harbour. Clinton compares the Emperor Hadrian's voyage sailing direct from Eleusis to Ephesos, Syll.³ 838. For Eleusis in the context of Attic harbours cf. M. C. McHugh, ABSA 114, 2019, 207-40 (map), and D. M. Lewis, Pnyx 1, 2022, 81-101, at 90-94 (map)). Daly compares the references to Antigonos in inscriptions of soldiers and demesmen at Rhamnous at this period, especially I Rhamnous 7 (awarding divine honours, 262-240/39 BC), but also I Rhamnous 8 (258/7 BC?), and I Rhamnous 17 (235/4 BC), though none of these mentions a specific visit. C. Habicht, Studien, 1982, 59-62, had suggested that Antigonos might plausibly have visited Eleusis between 245 and 243 BC in the context of his journey to Corinth to arrange the (in the event abortive) marriage of his son, the later Demetrios II, to Alexander of Corinth's widow (Plut. Arat. 17), and this remains possible [SDL].
