Honours for Phyleus of Oinoe, [secretary to the Council and the People], and his associates

Decree 3 In the archonship of Euainetos (335/4), in the - prytany, of -,
for which Proxenos son of Pylagoras of Acherdous was secretary.
On the old and new day (henēi kai neai), the seventeenth of the prytany.
Assembly. Of the presiding committee (proedrōn) . . . was putting to the vote.
(5) The People decided. Theodor- . . . proposed:
since Phyleus, elected [secretary to the Council and] the People[1] in the archonship of Pythodelos (336/5), performed the office to which
he was elected well and according to the laws and was crowned
by all the prytanies (prutaneiōn) . . . (10) . . . of the Council and the Assembly . . . . . . according to the
law . . . the People shall decide: to praise [the secretary of the Council and] the
People in the archonship of Pythodelos (336/5), Phyleus son of Pausanias of Oinoe,
(15) and crown him [with a gold crown of 1,000 drachmas];
and the treasurer of the People shall advance the money for the crown
from the People’s fund for expenditure on decrees;
and in order that the treasurer may recover [the stated money],
the presiding committee (proedrous) allotted to preside . . . (20) shall bring before the lawmakers (nomothetas) an amendment to the law about the expenditure so that
others who are appointed [secretaries] may [show love of honour (philotimōntai)] towards the Council and the People, [in performing their office according to the law]s
and in being useful to the Athenian People; and the
prytany secretary (grammatea ton kata prutaneian) shall inscribe this decree on a
(25) stone stele, and the one of the Council, which Agasi- proposed, and the one
of the People which Hippochares proposed, and stand it on the acropolis; and for
inscribing the stele the treasurer of the People shall give [20] drachmas from the People’s fund for expenditure on decrees.

(30) On the fourteenth, the second of the prytany. Council in the
Council chamber. Of the presiding committee (proedrōn) . . . was putting to the vote.
The Council decided. Agasi- . . . proposed:
since Phyleus son of Pausanias of Oinoe, [having been elected secretary] to the Council and the People, is performing his office justly and according to
(35) the laws and the prytanies (prutaneiai) . . . have praised and crowned him . . . . . . allotted . . . . . . the Council shall decide: to praise Phyleus son of Pausanias of Oinoe for his excellence
(40) and justice towards the Athenian Council and People
and crown him with a gold crown of 1,000 or 500 drachmas
when he has rendered his accounts; and in order that the People may also honour him,
the presiding committee (proedrous) allotted to preside in the next
Assembly shall put his case on the agenda and submit the opinion
(45) of the Council to the People that it seems good to the Council that he should be permitted
to obtain from the People whatever benefit he can.

Assembly. Of the presiding committee (proedrōn) . . . was putting to the vote.
(50) The Council and the People decided. Hippochares son of - of Alopeke
proposed: concerning what Phyleus [says, the secretary] of the Council
and the People and his co-[secretaries?] . . . -anias and Charidemos, the Council shall decide: that [the presiding committee (proedrous)] allotted to preside in the next Assembly shall bring
(55) them before the People and put their case on the agenda and submit the opinion
of the Council to the People that it seems good to the Council
to praise Phyleus son of Pausanias of Oinoe for his excellence and justice
and crown him [with a gold crown when he has rendered his accounts];
and to praise also [his co-secretaries?] . . . -anias
(60) and Charidemos of Oinoe, because they are performing their office justly
and according to the laws, and to crown [each of] them with a gold
crown of 1,000 drachmas; and the treasurer of the People
shall advance the money for the crowns . . . . . . and the treasurer shall give . . . (65) . . . recover [the money?] . . . . . .
