[1] This ‘topos-inscription’ is roughly carved on a stylobate block of the south stoa of the Roman Agora, in the eleventh intercolumnal space from the east end. It served to assign the location to an individual, perhaps a merchant. On ‘topos-inscriptions,’ see SEG 62.144 with notes and on the Roman Agora in general, see IG II³ 4, 12 with notes.

It appears immediately below SEG 62.145. The fact that two ‘topos-inscriptions’ appear in the same spot may have been a mistake (D.S. Sourlas and N. Papazarkadas in V. Chankowski and P. Karvonis, Tout vendre, tout acheter, 2012, 134-135) or indicate a change of ownership (cf. C. Saliou, ZPE 202, 2017, 145 n. 175). It appears that only the first letter of the name of the possessor of the topos was cut. Sourlas and Papazarkadas suggest that the cutter abandoned the inscription after realising that the place had already been assigned to Dios by SEG 62.146. Alternatively, it could be an abbreviation or a numeral (5 or 80).
