[The ephebes] of the tribe [Hippothontis] in the archonship of Ktesikles (334/3) [and their controller (sōphronistēs)] . . . ^[1] . . . having been crowned by the Council and the [People or deme Eleusis] . . . [dedicated (this) to Demeter and Kore]. . . . proposed: since [the ephebes] of Hippothontis . . . (5) took care of . . . and were disciplined and took care of . . . [while stationed at?] Eleusis and [the controller declares] . . . . . . the demesmen shall resolve to praise them and crown . . . for their – towards the deme of Eleusis, and to praise [also their controller] . . . for his excellence and care . . . (10) and crown him with a – crown, and to announce it at the competition . . . of the Dionysia, and the demarch shall invite him . . . [just as the others to whom the deme?] has awarded a seat of honour (proedrian) . . . . . . . . . ^[2]

[1] Textual note. The length of the line cannot be determined and the precise wording of restorations is therefore uncertain (Kirchner and Reinmuth restored a 63-letter line, Mitchel 62 letters, Clinton 76, Friend 82). Enough text survives, however, to give a clear enough idea of the flow of the sense, and we omit the more speculative restorations of earlier editors. [2] This is one of a number of dedications by ephebes dating certainly or probably to the early years of the reformed ephebate after 334/3 BC and inscribed with honorific decrees of the tribe to which the ephebes belonged or the deme where they were stationed. Cf. RO 89. If Munn is right to date Munn, Inscriptions from Panakton, 294-313 no. 2, a dedication to the Dioskouroi by the ephebes of Hippothontis = Friend T20, to 334/3, this inscription will relate to the same tribal cohort.
