[1] Textual note: AIO follows the text of IG II² except that where IG restores the personal name in l. 8 as Πτολεμαῖον ("Ptolemaios"), AIO declines to restore, since there are many possible candidates (see Aleshire, Asklepios, 178; Byrne, Roman Citizens of Athens, 2003, p. 294, with further bibliography).

This herm honours a member of the Herennii family of Hermos, who were prominent in the mid-third century AD. The festival mentioned in l. 4-5 might be the Great Sebasteia, the main Athenian festival of the Imperial cult (S. Follet, Athènes, 1976, 319-20, 324) or the Great Asklepieia, an ephebic festival attested in the third century AD (IG II² 2245 ) which would explain why this monument was found in the sanctuary of Asklepios on the south slope of the Acropolis (S. Aleshire, Asklepieion, 1989, 92-93; Aleshire, Asklepios at Athens, 1991, 178-79), but it may simply have been brought to the site as building material after Antiquity.
