[1] Textual Note. AIO's text follows Agora XV. 1-2. IG (following Sundwall, Klio 5, 1905, 282) restores [Paionidai] | - | - son of -chos | [Oinophilos son of Me]nestratos, suggesting that his father was Oinophilos son of Menestratos of Paionidai at IG II³ 4, 25, 95, of ca. 370/69 BC (cf. D. M. Lewis ap. R. Develin, Athenian Officials, 1989, 426 = SEG 39.179). This is possible, but not certain (not accepted in the Athenian Onomasticon). 3-5 The restoration of [Eupyridai] depends on the identification (first made by Sundwall and accepted most recently by Humphreys) of the man at l. 5 as Sostratides son of Ekphantos of Eupyridai, prytany secretary in 329/8 BC, IG II³ 1, 355 and 356 (or possibly a brother). Ekphantos is a sufficiently uncommon name for that to be plausible, but not completely certain.

This fragment, which is broken on all sides and at the back, is most likely from a prytany dedication of Leontis (on this genre of inscription see IG I³ 515). For the well-attested bouleutic quota of Phrearrhioi (9), see AIO 2776; for the quotas of Sounion (4) and Potamos Deiradiotes (2), e.g. IG II³ 4, 25. For the men listed, a number of whom are identifiable, see the notes in Agora XV and Humphreys, and for full and up-to-date prosopographical data, Athenian Onomasticon. The prosopography "suggests a date for this inscription between 340 and 320 BC" (Meritt and Traill). This is consistent with Tracy's identification of the lettering as that of his "Cutter of IG II² 1176", whose small body of known work dates to ca. 330-324/3 BC.
