KS 1 and 2

KS 1 and KS 2 Resources

These resources and their associated activities aim to support the National Primary Curriculum in the UK. The resources provide an introduction to ancient Athenian life and culture through the medium of inscriptions. Resources 1 (colouring), 2 (animals), 3 (people) and 4 (warfare) emphasise the visual nature of ancient Athenian inscriptions, whereas 5 (reading and writing), 6 (wordsearch) and 7 (name-tag making) emphasise the written word and its uses in ancient Athens.

In particular, they are directed at the KS 2 study of History (Ancient Greeks), the specifications for which emphasise globally-important events and the legacy of Greek and Roman culture, including the Greeks’ “Life, Achievements and Influence on the Western World”. Resource 6 is relevant to pupils’ awareness of etymology and morphology. Resource 5, on Reading and Writing, offers a complete introduction to the use of inscriptions and other written media in ancient Greece for KS 2.

We anticipate also that some of the activities will be helpful for both KS 1 and KS 2 classes in terms of Art and Design: Resource 1 encourages the use of colour and artistic design; Resources 4 and 7 encourage the use of a range of materials creatively to design and make products. Resources 2 and 3 are relevant to the study of animals and humans at both Key Stages.
