[1] This altar dedicated by demesmen of Lamptrai to Apollo is key evidence that [Upper] Lamptrai was located in the area of Lambrika, see C. W. J. Eliot, Coastal Demes of Attica (1962), 47-64; cf. W. K. Pritchett, Studies in Ancient Topography I (1965), 138-40; H. Lauter, Attische Landgemeinden (1993), 98-100; Bultrighini, 121-2, who notes that it is difficult to follow S. G. Byrne's suggestion, Mikros Hieromnemon. Meletes ... Jameson, 2008, 122 = SEG 57.172, that this is the product of a group of orgeones based in Lamptrai, cf. SEG 63.160). This is one of three substantial inscriptions of the deme Lamptrai. For the other two, both found further south in the putative area of Lower Lamptrai, see IG II² 1204; IG I³ 256.

Bultrighini, 122-24 (cf. Rivista di cultura classica e medioevale 55, 2013, 29–44 and SEG 63.160) discusses possible restorations of the end of l. 1: the epithet of Apollo, Pythios (τῶι [Πυθίωι ἀνέθεσαν]), or rather perhaps the name Asklepios (of which she detects possible trace of the first sigma, τῶι [Ἀ]σ̣[κληπιῶι ἀνέθεσαν]), either as an epithet of Apollo or as a second god. She raises the possibility that there is an echo of an earlier pagan healing sanctuary on the site in the dedication of the church where the inscription was found to the doctor, St. Luke.

Few of the men listed are attested as wealthy or prominent, which may indicate that they represented a genuine cross-section of deme society (Whitehead, Demes of Attica, 1986, 240, comparing the contemporary lists of contributors from Athmonon, SEG 24.197 and, a more prominent group from Halai Aixonides, IG II³ 4, 223; cf. however, Bultrighini, 122, for a different emphasis). Kallikrates (l. 8) was proposer of IG II³ 1, 301 and IG II³ 1, 313. The heir of Hieronymos (l. 5) paid off a debt between 345/4 and 342/1 BC (IG II² 1622, l. 587), so this inscription must date before that (cf. Davies, APF p. 537). [2] Or Teisias or Peisias.
