[1] This boundary marker (horos) is one of 18 engraved around Aigina in the second half of the fifth century BC (IG IV² 2, 792-804, 1074, SEG 59.347-350). This one was seen by Philippe Le Bas in 1843 and has not been recorded since. See IG IV² 2, 803 with notes for details on the function, dating, and authorship of these inscriptions. The lower lines, naming the gods Apollo and Poseidon, were probably inscribed later in a different hand as on the other boundary markers of this type from Aigina. Apollo and Poseidon are not attested on fifth-century horos inscriptions erected by Athens in other subject cities in the mid-late fifth century. The cult of Apollo may be Delios or Zosterios, that of Poseidon may be Erechtheus, Sounios, Helikonios, or Kalaureios (Polinskaya, Hesperia 78, 2009, 261). The two gods were probably not worshipped jointly, and the funds from this estate were likely divided between the treasuries of the two gods.
