[1] This boundary marker (horos), inscribed on a white marble stele 0.75m high, is one of eighteen engraved around Aigina in the second half of the fifth century BC (IG IV² 2, 792-804, 1074, SEG 59.347-350). This one was recorded at Paleochora in the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos (also called Panagia Phoritissa), most recently by P. Heriotes in 1893, but is now lost. For details on the function, dating, and authorship of these inscriptions, see IG IV² 2, 803 with notes. The lower lines, naming the gods Apollo and Poseidon, were inscribed later in a different hand. Apollo and Poseidon are not attested on fifth-century horos inscriptions erected by Athens in other subject cities in the mid-late fifth century. The cult of Apollo may be Delios or Zosterios, that of Poseidon may be Erechtheus, Sounios, Helikonios, or Kalaureios (Polinskaya, Hesperia 78, 2009, 261). The two gods were probably not worshipped jointly, and the funds from this estate were likely divided between the treasuries of the two gods.
