[1] This inscription is placed on a four-sided base for a bronze incense vessel (a thymiaterion). Each side is decorated with vine branches. It might be dated specifically to the time of Hadrian, but any time in the second century AD, or even the third is possible. The translation of parapaizon as "playful" is suggested by R. Parker (Greek Gods Abroad. Names, Natures, and Transformations, 2017, 149, n. 97). The base presumably pertains to the sanctuary of Dionysos at Eleusis, which was under the control of the deme, unlike the sanctuary of the Mysteries (cf. IG II³ 4, 970 with notes).
