[1] This base may have supported a statue or a sacrificial altar. It was found in a Roman bathhouse north of the Olympieion, but there is no other evidence for worship of Asklepios in this area. It may have been originally dedicated in the Asklepieion on the south slope of the Acropolis (on which, see IG II³ 4, 665), although it. The name of the dedicator and his idiosyncratic reference to Asklepios as xenios (‘friendly’ or ‘hospitable’) suggests that he was a foreigner.
