[1] This is a relief plaque, which was dedicated in the Asklepieion on the south slope of the Acropolis (see IG II³ 4, 665 with notes). The relief depicts two men and a servant before a sacrificial table (hiera trapeza) covered with cakes and fruit, in front of a tree with a snake coiled around it. At right, Hygieia stands with her hand resting on the tree and Asklepios is seated. On the relief, see N. Kaltsas, Sculpture in the national Archaeological Museum (2002), p. 214. The date is based on prosopography: Nikias appears in IG XII 9, 1242, l. 8, a list of Athenians from around 323 BC, and Mnesimachos was an arbitrator (and thus sixty years old) in 325/4 BC (IG II³ 4, 35, l. 96).
