[1] This inscription is on the abacus of a Doric column capital dedicated to Asklepios, which would have originally stood in the Asklepieion on the south slope of the Acropolis (on which, see IG II³ 4, 665 with notes). The dedicator, Phrynon, was one of the envoys sent to Philip II of Macedon to conclude the Peace of Philokrates in 346 BC (Aischin. 2.8; Demosth. 19.189). His other son, Euphanes, was prytany secretary in 324/2 BC (IG II³ 1, 371-373, Agora XV 53). Phrynon apparently sent one of his sons to Philip's court as a teenager (Demosth. 19.230). The priest Nikodemos also appears, as dedicator, in IG II³ 707. The inscription is dated on the basis of letter forms (S. Aleshire, Asklepios, 1991, 162). There is a round cutting on top for a marble statue.
