[1] This fragment from a statue base is identified as a dedication to Asklepios by the presence of Asklepieion on the south slope of the Athenian Acropolis in 354/3 or 344/3 BC (cf. IG II³ 4, 685 and Aleshire, Asklepieion 1, l. 19; see S. Aleshire, Asklepios at Athens, 152). On the Asklepieion and its inscriptions, see IG II³ 4, 665 with notes. [2] Kephisodotos the elder is a well-known sculptor, active c. 375-340 BC (see DNO 1832-1848). His "Eirene and Ploutos" survives in a Roman copy (images). His relatives Praxiteles (DNO 1851-2031), Kephisodotos the younger, and Timarchos (DNO 2378-2402) were also prominent sculptors.
