[1] This plaque, inscribed with a dactylic hexameter, was perhaps attached to the altar in the sanctuary of Asklepios on the Acropolis and records its dedication to Asklepios and other unnamed gods worshipped at it. These other deities may have included Asklepios’ daughter Hygieia (‘Health’), who often received dedications with him and occasionally alone from the fourth century BC onwards (see here); his wife, Epione; his other four daughters, Iaso, Akeso, Aigle, and Panakeia (see IG II³ 4, 703 with notes); and his two sons, Podaleirios and Machaon, who had served with the Greeks during the Trojan War (see IG II³ 4, 777, ll. 14-16). IG II³ 4, 674 might have been part of this altar. The dedicator, Telemachos, was the founder and first priest of the sanctuary (see IG II³ 4, 665 with notes). The inscription refers to the altar as 'you', a variant on the more usual Archaic and Classical practice in which inscriptions refer to themselves in the first person.
