IG II² 3810 Date: ca. 210 AD

The City (Polis) (erected this statue of) Titus Pompeius Dionysios of Paiania, one of those from the Mouseion, philosopher, having been king archon, (5)on account of his piety towards the gods and his good will (eunoias) towards his fatherland.^[1]

[1] This is one of a number of Imperial-period honorific monuments for philosophers and authors found in the area around the sanctuary of Asklepios on the south slope of the Acropolis (on which, see IG II³ 4, 665). Dionysios may also appear as a Councillor in Agora XV 477, l. 21, but is not otherwise known. The Mouseion was probably an institution for philosophers in Athens, perhaps linked to Pantainos' library and/or associated with the Hill of the Muses (see J. H. Oliver, Hesperia 3, 1934, 191-96 and Oliver, Marcus Aurelius 20 with notes). There are two foot-shaped depressions on top for the insertion of a bronze statue.
