[1] This fragment derives from a monument erected in the sanctuary of Asklepios on the south slope of the Acropolis (on which, see IG II³ 4, 665). It may have been a dedication or an honorific monument and appears to have been erected in the same year as IG II² 3804. The last two lines are inscribed in smaller letters than the traces of l. 1. On the temple attendant (zakoros), see IG II³ 4, 794. Statius Sarapion, whose personal name is suppressed here in favour of his priesthood (a practice known as hieronymy) was also responsible for the rededication of the Sarapion monument (IG II³ 4, 849-851), which provides an approximate date for this monument (S. Aleshire, Asklepios at Athens, 1991, 73).
