[1] This is a choregic dedication commemorating a victory in the dithyrambic competition at the City Dionysia (cf. IG II³ 4, 460 with notes), or perhaps (if there were two victorious tribes) the Thargelia (cf. IG II³ 4, 475 with notes). Pantakles (Stephanis, Dionysiakoi Technitai 1988, no. 1992) was a well-known poet, mentioned in several literary sources as well as on other choregic monuments. See IG I³ 967, with notes.
