[1] This is a statue base for Regillus set up by his father Herodes Atticus in the sanctuary of Apollo Pythios at Delphi. It is inscribed on a grey limestone base with mouldings at the top and bottom; the back is roughly hewn and was not visible. The statue of Regillus is a separate (later?) addition to a family monument which consisted of a statue of his father Herodes Atticus dedicated by the City of the Delphians, and statues of his mother Regilla and sister Elpinike set up by Herodes; an inscription for his sister Athenais was also added separately (later?); their brother Bradua is absent (see Choix de Delphes 257 with notes). The precise nature and original location of the monument are unknown, but it was probably located near the Athenian Treasury. [2] Regillus (PIR² C 886) was perhaps the youngest surviving child of Herodes and Regilla. An older sibling had died in infancy and his sisters Elpinike and Athenais and brother Bradua appear to have been older than him. He was probably born in the late 140s or early 150s and died, probably still as a child, in the mid- to late 150s AD. He was portrayed alongside his family in the exedra at Olympia finished in 153 AD where he shares a base with his sister Athenais (IvO 626; R. Bol, Statuenprogramm, 1984, 132-34 nr. 16-17 with fig. 60 and tab. 11, 48-50, 57-58). No inscriptions relating to Regillus are known from Athens and he is not mentioned in literary sources.

His full name was Tiberius Claudius Herodes Lucius Vibullius Regillus. Of these names, the first five echo those of his father (see e.g. Choix de Delphes 256 = F. Delphes III 3 66) while Regillus follows his mother (see e.g. Choix de Delphes 257).
