[1] This fragment derives from an imperial altar for the Emperor Nero (r. 54-69 AD). The titulature indicates a date after 66 AD (Geagan in Agora XVIII). For other altars to Nero, see SEG 32.252 and on Nero and Athens, see SEG 32.251. The dedicator was apparently the priest of Apollo Patroos, perhaps the Dionysodoros of Sounion, who erected IG II² 3274 for Nero's predecessor Claudius (see notes to that entry for the connection between Apollo Patroos and the Julio-Claudians). Based on this identification, Schmalz proposes that the altar should be placed under Gaius Caligula (r. 37-41 AD, see IG II² 3267 with notes) rather than Nero.
