[1] This inscription, a funerary monument, is now located at Bignor Park in West Sussex. Its findspot and original location are unknown, although its iconography suggests that it might derive from Attica.

The monument commemorates two individuals, probably siblings (the son and daughter of Kalamythidas). The names Agatheia and Brithon are not otherwise attested in Attica, so, if this is an Attic gravestone, it is likely that these two individuals were non-Athenians. The Doric ending (-idas) of their patronymic supports the view that they were not Athenian, as does the absence of demotics.

The inscription is placed above a sculpted relief, which depicts a female figure, sitting on a chair and facing towards a standing male with whom she shakes hands (dexiosis); in his left hand the male figure holds a pole supporting an object (perhaps representing an axe or a stick carrying a bundle), which rests on his shoulder. A small figure (probably a female child) stands between them, facing frontally.

This inscription was brought to Bignor Park by John Hawkins (1761-1841). Hawkins visited Greece in 1787-88 and again on several occasions in the 1790s, but it is not known where he acquired this monument.
