[1] This rounded marble base is a choregic dedication commemorating a victory in dithyrambic competitions at the Thargelia (cf. IG II³ 4, 475 with notes). The identification with the Thargelia is based on the find-spot and the design of the base which is very similar to a number of other rounded bases dedicated by victors in the Thargelia in the mid-fourth century BC (cf. IG II³ 4, 479-493). From now on up until the 340s, every attested Thargelia inscription that states the competition commemorates a victory in the boys’ competition.
