[1] This name is roughly carved on the base of an Ionic column that was found in 1954 in excavations on Odos Pelopida (between the Roman Agora and Hadrian’s Library) and derives from the east colonnade of the Roman Agora (BCH 79, 1955, 218; A. N. Oikonomides, Τὰ Ἀθηναϊκά 14, 1959, 13 n. 30). It is probably a graffito, but could also be interpreted as a ‘topos-inscription’ assigning the spot to Heraios, who might in that case be a merchant (see SEG 62.144 with notes).
