[1] This rectangular base is a fourth-century choregic dedication commemorating a victory in the dithyrambic competition at the City Dionysia (cf. IG II³ 4, 460 with notes). On the upper surface, there is a trace of a single hole, perhaps for attaching the tripod. The demotic of the sponsor (choregos), who is otherwise unknown, permits the restoration of Akamantis as the victorious tribe. The ascription to the City Dionysia is possible thanks to the findspot. Due to the damaged state of the text, it is not certain if the name at the end of the second line is the director or the archon. If it is the director, then the dedication cannot be dated with precision (Makres in IG II³ 4, p. 178). If it is the archon, he was perhaps Kephisophon in 329/8 or Kephisodoros in 323/2.
