The ephebes of Aiantis of the archonship of Nikokrates (333/2)^[1] and their controller (sōphronistēs), Epichares son of Epigenes of Oinoe, having won the (5) torch-race, dedicated (this) to the hero Mounichos.^[2] From Oinoe Polymedes son of Polyphilos ⟦and Pythodoros⟧^[3] and Pythodoros son of Apollodoros, (10) . . . . . . ^[4]

[1] For ephebic dedications beginning in 334/3 BC see IG II³ 4, 329 with notes. The ephebes in this case have competed in a torch race, to judge by the findspot of the inscription perhaps one of the three torch races which are said to have taken place in the Kerameikos, for Athena, for Hephaistos, and for Prometheus (Etymologicum Magnum 504, 18‒19 s.v. Kerameikos). Cf. IG II³ 4, 332, with notes. [2] Mounichos was one of the forty-two heroes that gave their names to the years that Athenian citizens spent in military service. Cf. Ath. Pol. 53.4 and 7, Suda s.v. eponymoi. [3] The stonecutter originally inscribed “and Pythodoros” in l. 8, but then erased it and inscribed it in the line below. [4] The top of the monument still shows a cavity for the insertion of a votive.
