[1] This rupestral boundary marker (horos), inscribed on a smoothed rock-surface near Sphendouri in the south of Aigina, is one of 18 engraved around Aigina in the second half of the fifth century BC (IG IV² 2, 792-804, 1074, SEG 59.347-350). For details on the function, dating, and authorship of these inscriptions, see IG IV² 2, 803 with notes. Fraenkel in the first edition of IG IV suggested that this might be a Hellenistic or a modern forgery, but the subsequent discovery of more rupestral boundary markers in the same area (SEG 59.347-350) leads Polinskaya to group it with these fifth-century inscriptions (Hesperia 78, 2009, 238).
