[1] This boundary marker (horos), inscribed on a blue marble stele 0.26m high, is one of 18 engraved around Aigina in the second half of the fifth century BC (IG IV² 2, 792-804, 1074, SEG 59.347-350). There is no certain information about its findspot, but it may be identical with a stone seen at Paleochora in 1901 employed as a threshold block (Hallof and Goette in IG IV.² 2). The goddess Athena is attested in other horoi erected by Athens in subject cities in the mid-late fifth century BC, in Chalkis (IG I³ 1502), and on Kos (IG I³ 1491) and Samos (IG I³ 1492-1495) as “Ruler or Protector of Athens” (Athenōn medeousa), effectively “Polias”.
