[1] Textual note: Only three small fragments of this inscription survive from what might be a rectangular statue base made of Naxian marble. At least two lines of boustrophedon text are written horizontally. A third line, possibly the sculptor’s signature, was written at right angles to it. The translation offered here, follows Raubitschek's reading: ναϝυπ̣[εγὸς (‘shipwright’), which is highly uncertain. Jeffrey proposed –Ν αϝυτ̣[αρ? – ('... but...'). IG I³ has –ναϝυτ̣– ('sailor'?).

The letters suggest a date possibly as early as the seventh century BC. The reference to a tithe may tentatively be supposed to indicate a lucrative practice such as artisanal work (for this suggestion see A.-C. Gillis, Des dieux dans le four, 2021, 44, no. C7).
