Sye[ris ...] S-^[1] assistant (diakonos) of Lysimache.^[1] (5) This image (eikōn) of me in the sanctuary shows my form clearly. My deeds and [spirit (nous)] now live (?), clear to all. An awesome (semnē) fate (moira) (10) brought me to the most beautiful temple of holy Pallas, where I performed (elatreusa) this not unglorious labour (ponon) for the goddess. Uninscribed space Nikomachos made it.

[1] For Lysimache, priestess of Athena Polias, see IG II² 3453. Ll. 1-4 are in a larger, later, style of lettering, and may have been inscribed when the base was reworked in the hellenistic period (it was formerly thought that the Lysimache served by Syeris was a later priestess with the same name as the famous one, but Keesling shows that is unlikely). The text in ll. 1-2 probably contained reference to Syeris' origin. It is unclear whether or not she was an Athenian citizen. Paus. 1.27.4 saw this statue by the temple of Athena. It depicted Syeris as a elderly woman (presbytis). Like IG II² 3453 it seems to have been erected following the subject's death.

Textual note: AIO's translation follows Keesling's text, which is the same as IG except that, with Keesling, we punctuate with a full stop after l. 4 and not after l. 5 (which would yield the sense, "... assistant in the sanctuary. This image shows my form clearly ...").
