The soldiers crowned^[1] the general and the patrol commander (peripolarchon)^[2] for their excellence (aretēs) and justice (dikaiosunēs) towards the soldiers

[1] For this type of inscription see IG II³ 4, 285, with notes. At Rhamnous most of them seem to have been set up in the headquarters in the deme-fortress, but this one was found at some distance from the fortress. Pherekleides is attested in the generalship for Akte in 324/3 BC (I Oropos 353 C 11-15), but the generalship he held here will have been that of the countryside (cf. I Rham. 3, with notes), so must have been in a different year.
