[1] This text is inscribed at the top of a fragmentary stele, found at Priene in Western Asia Minor. It is the heading of an Athenian decree honouring the Prienians. This is not the only example of an Athenian decree found at Priene; clearly the Prienians wanted to make their relationship with Athens visible in their own public space (see also IG II³ 1, 1239). There is a rich record of diplomacy between Athens and Priene stretching over much of the late Classical and Hellenistic periods (see again IG II³ 1, 1239 with notes).
