[1] This votive table confirms the existence of the sanctuary of Dionysos in Rhamnous. Several other elements of the sanctuary have been found around the theatre at Rhamnous: a small temple to the northwest, an uninscribed altar on the western edge of the theatre and a low round structure to the southwest, which might be a stibadeion (a sacred bed dedicated to Dionysos). It is ambiguous whether the adjective hieros, 'sacred' is neuter or feminine. Therefore, this inscription might be understood either as '(these are) sacred objects of Dionysos' or '(this is) a sacred table of Dionysos' (for more details on these formulae and their archaic roots see M. Lazzarini, Le formule delle dediche votive, 1976, 125–126). The monument was later used to pave a Roman-era courtyard.
