[1] This fragment derives from the lower left corner of a statue base, which was dedicated in the Asklepieion on the south slope of the Acropolis (on which, see IG II³ 4, 665). Leonides is perhaps a member of the Claudii of Melite, one of the most prominent families of first- and second-century AD Athens (Byrne, RCA, 153–64, stemma vii).
