[1] This relief plaque was dedicated in the Asklepieion on the south slope of the Acropolis (on which, see IG II³ 4, 665). The relief is an ‘anatomical votive’ depicting a disembodied leg (cf. AIUK 4.5, pp. 69; J. Draycott and E.-J. Graham, Bodies of Evidence, 2017). The bottom is lost, so it is unclear whether a foot was also depicted. The dedicators' Latin names might indicate that they were of Roman origin, although they do not bear the full tria nomina usual for Roman citizens. It is possible that the son is to be identified with Cornutus of Prousa in Bithynia, whose gravestone records that he came to Athens to study rhetoric in the second century AD (IG II² 10118), in which case it would seem that Asklepios and Hygieia's intervention was not lasting.
