[1] This epistyle comes from a structure dedicated in the Asklepieion on the south slope of the Acropolis (on which, see IG II³ 4, 665), during the reign of the Emperor Tiberius (14-37 AD). Several uninscribed fragments from the same epistyle have been found in the Asklepieion. They probably derive from an Ionic stoa in the sanctuary, but the exact location of this structure is unclear. Several dedications on behalf of the health of Tiberius were made throughout the Empire following the fall of his powerful deputy Sejanus in 31AD; this may be one of them (M. Melfi, I santuari di Asclepio in Grecia, 2007, 372-74). It was reused in the church built on the site in Late Antiquity, as the architrave of the speaking platform.
