[1] This stoichedon inscription is carved sideways on the stem of a round column, which was dedicated in the Asklepieion on the south slope of the Acropolis. The dedicator’s name was probably Aleximachos or Aleximenes (Byrne, Athenian Onomasticon). There is a cutting in the top, in which a votive would have been inserted. The first line seems to have been inscribed in a different hand at an earlier date than ll. 2-5. On the Asklepieion and its inscriptions, see IG II³ 4, 665.
