[1] This inscription is on the broad upper portion of a rectangular pillar monument dedicated to Asklepios, which would have originally stood in the Asklepieion on the south slope of the Athenian Acropolis (on the Asklepieion and its inscriptions, see IG II³ 4, 665). The dedicator appears as a witness in Demosthenes 59.32, delivered ca. 343-340 BC. IG II² 6874, which records one Philagros son of Alexis of Melite, is probably his funerary stele (S. Byrne, Athenian Onomasicon). The left and right sides of the block seem to have been cut away for some later reuse.
