[1] This fragment from the left side of an inscription is a Roman-period dedication by a victor in a contest, either an athlete or the sponsor (choregos) of a victorious chorus in the dithyramb at the City Dionysia (see IG II³ 4, 558 with notes). The first line, which is inscribed in significantly larger letters than the rest of the text, probably named the dedicator. The fragmentary state of the inscription means that he cannot be identified. Lines 3-4 are the beginning of a poem. A third-century AD date is suggested by letterforms and the late Roman find context.
