. . . . . . -imos son of Gaios . . . traces having been overseer of the torch-race (lampadarchēsas)^[1] in the year that Leukios (5) of Rhamnous the younger^[2] was archon (44/3 BC?) (dedicated this) [to Hermes] in the trainership (paidotribountos) [of Meniskos?] of Kolonai in the assistant-trainership (hupopaidotribountos) of [Theodoros?] of Melite.^[3]

[1] On the ephebic dedications of the Hellenistic period see IG II³ 4, 357 with n. 1. The dedicator was ephebic lampadarch, cf. IG II³ 4, 371 and references there. [2] “The younger” distinguishes Leukios from his namesake who is usually thought to have been archon in 59/8 BC (see Follet, REG 18, 2005, 12, cf. IG II³ 4, 378). Schmalz, however, would date both archons to the reign of Nero. [3] This base has a cutting in the top for insertion of a dedicatory torch. The stone was reused for a later dedication, 128-132 AD, Agora XVIII 298.
