[1] The egg-shaped marble stone is made of Pentelic marble is similar to IG II³ 4, 1159, 1160, and 1161, suggesting that this was also a dedication to Herakles as a protector and a healer, intended to ward off future harm (see IG II³, 1155). In this case, it may originate from a hypothetical sanctuary of Herakles situated on the south slope of Acropolis (see IG II³ 4, 1157 with notes). It was found in a secondary context, in a late Roman house west of the Stoa of Attalos in the Agora (Meritt 1961, 267, no. 91), so its original location is unreconstructable. It has been alternatively identified as a dedication to Aphrodite, a phallic-shaped 'Aphrodite stone' (B. D. Meritt, Hesperia 30/3, 1961, 267, no. 91; A. Stewart, Hesperia 81, 2012, 308, n. 81). Letter forms suggest a 4^th-century BC date. Thraittis is a rare variation of the name Thratta, literally, 'a Thracian woman', e.g., Athenian Onomasticon.
