Honours for grain purchasers (sitonai)

. . . . . . for good fortune, the Council shall decide: [that the presiding committee (proedrous) allotted to preside in] the People at the coming Assembly shall put the matter on the agenda and submit the opinion of the Council to the People, that it seems good to the Council to praise the (5) grain purchasers (sitōnas) who served in the archonship of Olbios (275/4) and to crown each of them with a gold crown according to the law for their love of honour (philotimias) for the People; and they shall have front row seats at all the competitions that the city puts on, and the director of works (architektona) in office at the time shall arrange the seating for them; and to praise (10) their secretary Chairestratos and crown him with a foliage crown; and the prytany secretary shall inscribe this decree and the names of the grain purchasers (sitōnōn) and their secretary on a stone stele and stand it . . . where . . . is; and for the making of the stele and the inscribing (15) the treasurer of the military fund (tamian tōn stratiōtikōn) shall allocate the expenditure accrued.
