This is a statue base for Antoninus Pius (r. 138-161 AD) at Athens, on whom see Oliver, Constitutions 134 with notes. His “father the god” is the emperor Hadrian. Antoninus Pius is also presented as continuing and perfecting Hadrian’s work in CIL III 549. For the date, see D. Kienast, W. Eck, M. Heil, Römische Kaisertabelle, 2017, 128-29. The base was located at the Theatre of Dionysos by the mid-19th century (M. Levensohn and E. Levensohn, Hesperia 16, 1947, 71), but before this it was seen by the traveller Richard Chandler in the Church of St. George to the northeast of the Acropolis in 1766 (Inscriptiones antiquae, 1774, II p. 57 no. 38). There are a number of Hadrianic structures in this area, with which the statue base might having been connected (e.g. Hadrian’s Library, the Pantheon, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus).
