[1] This inscription is a citation within a crown probably from the bottom of what is perhaps a stele. K. Takeuchi reports that the original left side is preserved and that the crown is more elaborate than those usually found on deme decrees. The remains of a further crown are preserved above. Given that the inscription was discovered on the acropolis, it belonged perhaps to a dedication commemorating honours awarded by a number of different bodies (e.g., as Russo notes per ep., like Agora XV 33); or the crowns may be associated with an inscribed decree (e.g. like AIO 871). Kirchner in IG II² dated the inscription to the 3rd cent. BC, which is not impossible (three demes are known to have continued to produce inscribed decrees in the 3rd century, Eleusis, Rhamnous and Halai Aixonides, cf. note on Agora XVI 192, but the decree itself may not have been inscribed in this case). Takeuchi reports that the letter forms would also be compatible with a late-4th century date. On demes in general see RO 46.
