. . . . . . to praise (them) [and?] inscribe that on account of their justice (5)the Council judged them to be victorious over the other tribes as having been the best prytany for the city.^[1]

[1] Whether or not it was inscribed on a tribal dedication (thus Agora XV), or was a decree inscribed on a stele without dedicatory wording, this is a fragment of a tribal decree (thus IG and Clinton, in I Eleusis vol. IA p. 1, reporting its current location in the Archaeological Museum of Eleusis) honouring its representatives on the Council for winning the competition for best prytany of the year. For a deme decree honouring its representatives on the Council, see Agora XV 45 (Teithras); and for honorific tribal decrees included on prytany dedications (none, however, honouring the whole prytany), see IG II³ 4, 29; IG II³ 4, 76. An early 4th-century date is suggested by the orthography. Given the findspot, it may be a decree of Hippothontis, which set up (some of) its inscriptions at Eleusis. Cf. I Eleusis 63, with notes; Humphreys, Kinship, 749, n. 77. Note, however, that Clinton is sceptical that the fragment originated in Eleusis.
