[1] This fragment appears to derive from an Imperial letter or a decree. On inscribed Imperial letters, see I Eleusis 513; on Imperial period decrees at Athens, see SEG 21.499. The stone is now lost, but Dittenberger in IG III thought it looked very similar to IG II² 1103, a letter from Hadrian about fish sales, perhaps indicating a mid-second century AD date. The reference to the Panhellenion in l. 10, means it must post-date 131/2 AD (on the Panhellenion, see IG II³ 4, 215 with notes). Follet and Peppas-Delmousou, BCH 121 (1997) 306-307 (SEG 47.146) suggest that it was one of the monuments erected on the Acropolis shortly after the Panhellenion’s foundation by various new members, on which see Sardis et Synnada no. 2 with notes.
