[1] This inscription is preserved in six fragments from a marble basin. For similar dedications by male fullers, see IG I³ 554 and IG I³ 616, and for a washerwoman (who also dedicated a basin) see IG I³ 794. Although the occupation of Mneson is emphasised, it is a reasonable assumption that Polyxenos was also a fuller, since sons regularly followed their fathers into the same professions (for examples, see notes to IG I³ 628). The occupation is probably attributed to Mneson rather than Polyxenos for metrical reasons [CdL]. On inscriptions with occupational terms see IG I³ 546.
