[1] This statue of Lucilla, the eldest surviving daughter of Marcus Aurelius and wife of his co-regent Lucius Verus, formed part of a statue group at Eleusis erected after her father’s death and deification in 180 AD (see I Eleusis 505 with notes). In 182 AD, Lucilla was implicated in a conspiracy against her brother Commodus, for which she was executed. Her name was erased from the base as part of an act of damnatio memoriae (on this practice, see IG II³ 4, 1397 with notes). On top there are two holes for the feet of a bronze statue (left foot forward), both preserving traces of lead and bronze, another hole for a lewis, and a rectangular cutting on towards the left side.
