The Council of the Areopagos and the People (erected this statue of) Marcus Agrippa son of Marcus (5) Agrippa, their own benefactor and saviour,^[1] when the priest of Apollo for life was Pammenes son of (10) Zenon of Marathon.^[2]

[1] This is one of several statue bases erected by the Athenians for Augustus and his family on Athenian-administered Delos (see I Délos 1588 with notes). It commemorates Agrippa Postumus, the youngest grandson of Augustus, who was son of Augustus' daughter Julia (on whom see I Délos 1592 with notes) and his second-in-command, Marcus Agrippa (on whom see IG II² 4122 with notes). The statue should date sometime between his birth in 12 BC and his adoption by Augustus as co-heir with his stepson Tiberius in 4 AD. He was murdered shortly after Augustus' death in 14 AD. The base is cylindrical and there is anathyrosis on top for joining a crowning block (now lost). [2] On Pammenes, see IG II³ 4, 10 with notes.
