[1] This statue base has been identified as a dedication to Asklepios on the basis of its findspot, somewhat near the Asklepieion on the south slope of the Acropolis (on which, see IG II³ 4, 665). Traces of an earlier inscription appear to be visible beneath the existing one. [2] The sculptor was either Kaikosthenes of Thria or Dies of Thria (Plin. Nat. Hist. 34.87; DNO 3078-3087), brothers who were active at Athens in the second half of the third century BC. None of their works are known to survive.
